Kim turns ‘jowable’

SOUNDS FAMILIAR - Baby A. Gil - The Philippine Star
Kim turns jowable
Kim Molina as a woman who begs God for a boyfriend in Jowable

The movie is still set to open later this month so we still do not know how Kim Molina will fare as the woman begging God for a boyfriend in the movie titled Jowable. But this girl is already fast establishing an unsinkable reputation with everything she does. So there is also a strong chance she will not only not sink but that she will soar very high up to stardom as she turns jowable.

Kim started out as a singer. In fact, she was already singing as early as when she was all of two years old, back in Saudi Arabia where her father is a successful dentist. So, it was as the representative of the Middle East that she went off to the World Championships of the Performing Arts or the WCOPA in Los Angeles when she was only 18 years old. Of course, she came home with several medals including one as the Senior Grand Champion Vocalist of the World.

It was after WCOPA that Kim decided to try her luck in the Philippines. Given her sexy good looks, talent, drive and likable personality, it did not take her long to establish herself as an actress on the way up. She was great in the female bonding tearjerker Camp Sawi, and a fun and sympathetic best friend in Walang Forever. She also bagged roles in TV series like Bagani, Kadenang Ginto and The General’s Daughter. Then recently, there was that much talked about film MOMOL Nights with Kit Thompson.

The role though that would make Kim a star was that of Aileen, the heroine of the unsinkable musical Rak of Aegis. A bit of an aside here, Rak is still running at the PETA Theater in Quezon City in another one of its many return engagements. And Kim, who already has a Best Actress in a Musical Award for her performance from Gawad Buhay is on stage, with her fantastic voice soaring up to high heavens singing those Aegis songs. I think it is a great idea to check her out before Jowable comes out.

The term jowable is a new take on the term dyowa, which is slang for wife or husband or girlfriend or boyfriend. The movie, which also stars Kim’s real-life boyfriend Gerald Napoles, is based on Daryl Yap’s sensational and truly irreverent short film on Facebook. Daryl also wrote and directed the feature length version and he chose Kim to play the coveted lead role. And because she is also one great singer, remember she also has an Awit Award for her debut recording of Naluluha Ako, Kim also sings the lovely ballad, Sino Ang Iibigin Ko for the Jowable soundtrack.
