Megan celebrates 24th birthday in Moscow

You blink and you wonder where you will see 2013 Miss World Megan Young next?

As Funfare Update noted a few days ago, Megan was in Bali to assist reigning Miss Indonesia-World in crowning her successor. Then, she flew to London before heading for Moscow on Feb. 26. The next day, Megan celebrated her 24th birthday with a dinner hosted by Miss Russia Organization at a posh hotel. She was given a birthday cake and a set of earrings as gift. 2013 Miss Universe Gabriela Isler and 2013 Miss Russia Elmira Abdrazakova helped Megan blow the candles on the cake.

Earlier that day, the three beauties graced a press conference for the upcoming (2014) Miss Russia pageant, after which Megan had a quick tour of the Kremlin (the heart of the Russian Government complex overlooking the historic Red Square).

Nuwebe scores 4 nominations at 4th Annual Queens World Fest

Nuwebe has scored four nominations at the 4th Annual Queens World Film Festival (QWFF) slated March 4 to 9 in Jackson Heights, Long Island City, New York --- Best Narrative Feature, Joseph Israel Laban for Best Director Narrative Feature, Jake Cuenca for Best Actor Male and Barbara Miguel for Best Actor Female.  

A Cinemalaya entry in the New Breed Section last year, it is inspired by the actual story of Krista (played by Miguel), who became pregnant at the tender age of nine. Her mother, Dolores (acted by Nadine Samonte), believes that she was impregnated by nuno sa punso (elf in a mound) but the real story proved to be more complicated than it seems, Krista suffered sexual abuse perpetrated by her own father, Moises (essayed by Cuenca).

In 2013, Miguel won Best Actress for the same role at the 9th Harlem International Film Festival also in New York. The film won the Youth Jury’s Mention of Honor at the 3rd Lume International Film Festival in São Luis, Maranhão, Brazil, and garnered a Special Mention Citation at the 4th Puebla Internacional de Cine in Mexico.

After QWFF, Nuwebe is scheduled to compete in the 13th Rome Independent Film Festival, March 16 to 23, Italy (International Competition); 7th CinemAsia Film Festival, April 1 to 6, Amsterdam, The Netherlands (Main Competition); and 32nd Festival Cinematografico Internacional del Uruguay, April 10 to 20, Montevideo (International Competition).  

Earlier, it joined in the 3rd Jozi Film Festival, Feb. 21 to 23, Johannesburg, South Africa (Main Competition).
