What is your New Year's resolution?

Major, Major - Venus Raj -

This is the time for the customary New Year’s resolution. And year after year, most resolutions go unfulfilled. This can be due to various reasons  lack of commitment, or simply, the resolution was not realistic to begin with.

This is the time when people vow to lose 10 pounds, quit drinking and/or smoking, become a better husband, get higher grades, etc. Just about this time, everybody is still excited to fill out the planner they got as a gift last Christmas.

We usually start the year on an enthusiastic note. We mark our celebrations with overflowing food and drinks, fireworks and cheerful noise. This inspires us to set ambitious goals. We aim for the stars. But sadly, it only takes a few days before many come crashing back to reality. And since this is the case year after year, few rarely commit to their New Year’s resolutions knowing that others don’t keep theirs as well. It seems that the value of this tradition has gradually diminished  which should not be the case at all.

New Year’s resolutions are made in the tradition of people’s belief in fresh starts. Being positive should not be exclusive to the start of the year. This is an attitude that is always in season.  Everybody has the right to dream. Everybody gets a shot at life. We make the most out of the opportunities presented to us.

Personally, I don’t mean to drastically change anything in my life this coming new year. I really leave everything up to God. He knows best. All my plans are made with His guidance. All I pray for is an even better year not just for myself but for my loved ones and everybody as well.

Prayer is the best solution to achieve our desires and aspirations. This year, I pray for more time with my family in spite of my busy schedule. I would like to spend more time with my mom, I don’t want to waste time doing things that may be set aside for the mean time.

I also need to manage my time better to make sure I get to attend worship services and Bible studies. The busier I am, the more I need to seek spiritual counsel. I know that every decision I make must be carefully thought of. I am not about to waste the fruits of my blood, sweat and tears with just some careless mistake.

As we begin a new year, let us look back to the past year with thanksgiving for the lessons learned, the memories created, the friendships made and the challenges hurdled. And from there, let’s move forward with better courage, stronger faith, and higher goals.
