A magnet of unity for the Visayanian community UV Intramurals 2024 blasts off with elaborate rites today

CEBU, Philippines — The highly anticipated University of the Visayas Intramurals 2024 gets under way today, (Wednesday, April 24) at the UV-Main Campus in Colon Street, Cebu City.

Students from all units will not only battle it out in basketball, volleyball, table tennis, darts, chess, scrabble, and katatedo, but also test each other’s wits in academic and literary contests such as oration, declamation, extemporaneous speaking, spelling, essay and news writing, science and math quiz bowls.

There will also be competition on digital photography, poster making, vocal solo and duet, and Mobile Legends (ML) among others.

Before the action begins, an elaborate opening ceremony will take place starting with the traditional parade of athletes at 8 a.m. and the ceremonial lighting of torch to be led by Jimpaul Amistoso, the team captain of the UV Green Lancers.

The centerpiece of the kick-off rites is the keenly awaited selection of Mr. and Ms. Intramurals 2024 and the cheerdance tilt.

UV Athletic and Cultural Director Dr. Cresencio “Chris” Mejarito, who will formally declare the tournament open, expressed his excitement and enthusiasm for all the competitors as well as those who will be cheering for them as they go all out for top honors in three-day joust that is a unifying force for the Visayanian community at this time of the year.

Anchored on the theme “Transformation through Innovation and Excellence in 5 S”, it puts the spotlight on students pushing boundaries to deliver outstanding performance by employing innovative approach in training and devising strategies to elevate the level of competition.

It also underscores the pursuit of excellence as a transformative journey where athletes strive to surpass their previous showing and overcome limitations in their respective disciplines under the spirit of camaraderie.

Most importantly, the theme encourages participants to embrace innovation as a catalyst for personal and collective transformation that leads to higher level of success in their pursuit of becoming overall champions. — (FREEMAN)
