The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Talisay City and Minglanilla are on collision course for a title showdown after they sustained their sizzling runs in the Cebu First District-wide 10th Gullas Cup developmental basketball tournament.

Joshua Romelle de la Cerna fired 20 points and Giovanni Tabay banged in 17 markers as Talisay mercilessly clobbered the hapless Sibonga, 106-56, while Minglanilla drew 42 points combined from Earvin Dennis Ferraren and Ed Bonphyl Macasling to turn back the Hernal "Wowie" Escocio-led San Fernando, 84-81.

Three other players cashed in double figures as Talisay firmed up its grip of the solo leadership with a 6-1 win-loss record.

Arvie Cabañero added 12 markers, while James Paolo Goersua and Bridrick Brigoli each scored 10 for Talisay, which never looked back after getting off to a blistering 36-18 start.

The Talisaynons kept their relentless offensive the rest of the way to come up with a 50-point massacre.

In the other game, Arnold Pardillo netted 17 points and Raymond Tapanan had 14 for Minglanilla, which stayed at solo second place with a 6-2 slate followed by San Fernando at 4-4, Carcar at 3-4 and Sibonga at 2-5. Naga is still winless in seven starts, so far.

The top two teams at the end of the double round robin elimination will automatically slug it out for the championship, while the No.3 and No.4 qualifiers will fight for the third place trophy.— EBV
