DepEd urged: Improve system of SRI payout
CEBU, Philippines — The Department of Education (DepEd) in Central Visayas is now being urged to come up with a distribution system for the Service Recognition Incentive (SRI) of teachers saying its long lines under the heat of the sun is demeaning and demoralizing .
This is the filed resolution of Cebu City Councilor Rey Gealon after reports have surfaced that teachers were seen lining up along the roads of Imus and Zapatera under the scorching heat of the sun to claim their SRI last December 20, 2023.
According to Gealon, the "sight" is unbearable , adding that the distribution method is outdated and lacks an orderly system.
I believe it is demeaning and demoralizing for teachers to be in that horrible situation, said Gealon.
In his resolution, Gealon added that while the distribution of SRI is commendable, the method of distribution leaves much to be desired , as eligible public school teachers and other personnel had to line up in scorching heat.
He added, the heat is also an added threat in their safety and security as teachers are accordingly prone to danger.
In line with this, Gealon is now seeking the approval of the Cebu City Council to request DepEd to come up with a system of distribution for teachers suggesting that the SRI can be delivered to schools instead, clustered to maximize time, effort and resources.
As this method of distribution is degrading and inhumane, an excerpt of his resolution further reads.
Gealon further added that teachers are supposed to be treated in the way the public see them in the community - the mentors and molders of the city's leaders.
