Mayor wants City Hall workers to have life plan

CEBU, Philippines — Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama has instructed the newly-confirmed Human Resource Development Office’s head Henry Tomalabcad and the rest of the department heads to check on employees, preparing them ahead of any medical emergencies and even death with a plan so that their families will not be burdened.

“Everytime nay manawag nako, gawas sa hospital, walay kwarta, naa pay bayranan..Dili malubong kay wala pa nakabayad sa funeral parlor, walay nitso kabutangan, wa pa ma arrange sa simbahan,” said Rama during their flag raising ceremonies at the City Hall grounds yesterday.

Fresh from his official trip to Brisbane, Australia, Rama instructed Tomalabcad to check on the employees, aside from the City Hall’s right-sizing effort.

“I wish, Henry… before we go on a 3,000 employees on 2025, please go down, go down and check on our employee, if something will happen to them today, do they have a plan?...Ang uban, mahadlok ug plano, pero the truth of the matter, prepare your death,” said Rama.

The mayor explained that preparing ahead would spare the rest of the family members the burden, if not, avoid friction between them.

“So that your forebears, imong mga mahibilin will not be burdening with debts…Prepare your death so that one day, you will not leave them with debts, you will not leave them with trouble…You will not leave them dividing properties and as if mga vultures..I wish you all think that way,” added Rama.

Rama also told employees not to go to hospitals that are hard to negotiate with.

“Ayaw mo anha sa mga hospital nga lisod hangyuon,” Rama said.

Rama also told other department heads to check on their personnel.

“Kamong mga department head, you are supposed to be father or mother of your department…go down. Check, check, check..Kumusta inyong mga empleyado,” added Rama.

As the observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day is nearing, Rama told everyone to “ponder.”

“The most important thing that we should be leaving, is a memory that should be delightful.. A memory that will leave them a lesson…A memory that you will be immolated as a parent,” ended Rama. — (FREEMAN)
