Cebu City PESO named nominee in the national search

CEBU, Philippines —  The Department of Labor and Employment-7 has recognized the 2023 Search for Best Public Employment Service Office (PESO) Award regional nominees which include Cebu City PESO for the highly-urbanized city category.

Other nominees include Bohol Province PESO for the first class province category; Dumaguete City PESO for the component city/independent component city category; Talibon, Bohol for the first class municipality category; and Mabini, Bohol for the 4th-6th class municipality category.

PESO is a non-fee charging multi-employment service facility or entity established in local government units (LGUs) in coordination with the DOLE pursuant to Republic Act No. 8759 otherwise known as the PESO Act of 1999 as amended by R.A. No. 10691.

DOLE-7 Regional Director Lilia A. Estillore pointed out that the regional nominees were already endorsed to the National Evaluation Committee at the DOLE central office.

Estillore and the said PESOs will be the region’s contenders to the national search, where they will get to compete against the rest of the PESOs representing the regions from all over the country.

“We laud all the PESOs, especially the regional nominees for demonstrating commitment as an intermediary arm of the Department of Labor and Employment in delivering its programs and services to the public,” said Estillore, in a statement.

She said recognizing the regional nominees is a way of honoring their contributions to the DOLE’s fight against poverty.

She said that the department continues to work together with the PESOs to promote poverty alleviation and employment generation.

“We are grateful to the different local government units through their PESOs for the support they have constantly extended to the department in fulfilling its mandate,” she added.

The national awarding ceremonies will take place on October 25 to 27, 2023 during the holding of the 2023 National PESO Congress, which will be hosted by DOLE Regional Office No. 8 in Tacloban City.

Plaques of recognition both for the mayor of the LGU concerned and the PESO manager as well as a P100,000 cash prize await the 2023 Search for Best PESO national winners.

“Win or lose, our 2023 Search for Best PESO regional winners are already winners in their own right. I just hope that whatever they have accomplished, the same is replicated in other PESO offices, their best practices are emulated by others, too. To all our regional winners, congratulations!” the regional chief added.

She further said that this initiative is also an avenue to acknowledge the exemplary performance of the PESOs as a labor market information hub and provider of employment services such as job referral and placements, career guidance and employment coaching to the intended clients.

The search for Best PESO is an annual activity that recognizes the significant contribution and outstanding accomplishments of PESOs in the deployment of DOLE-initiated employment facilitation programs.
