CEBU, Philippines - At least 18 police personnel were deployed in Barangay Inayawan, Cebu City starting yesterday after it recorded an alarming number of shooting incidents in the past two months.

The police deploy-ment was reached after Supt. Conrad Capa, officer-in-charge of Cebu City Police Office, met with Councilor David Tumulak, chairman of the City Council committee on peace and order, and the barangay officials yesterday.

The closed-door meeting was also attended by Chief Inspector Aileen Recla, chief of the City Investigation and Detective Management Branch; Inspector Gomersendo Mandawe, deputy chief of the City Intelligence Branch; SPO4 Bong Moga, deputy chief of the Homicide Section; Senior Inspector Homobuno Sayon, Pardo Police Station chief; and acting Barangay Captain Rustico Ignacio.

Tumulak earlier reported that the city’s Command Control Center has monitored an alarming number of shooting incidents in Inayawan. Based on the monitoring of C3, Inayawan has 20 shooting incidents from January 10 to March 1 this year, in which 16 of the victims died.

But the Homicide Section reported that there were actually 34 shooting incidents in Inayawan. Tumulak said that CCPO will provide 10 personnel from the public safety battalion and the other eight police personnel will be deployed by the Pardo Police Station.

The barangay hall will serve as the police detachment until peace and order in the area are restored.

“Mission nila is police visibility, and assist sa barangay tanods to any illegal activities in the area kay it was known sa meeting nga most incidents involve illegal drug trade, some of the killings involve drug related. It was also found out sa barangay officials nga naay illegal gambling, video carrera, ug swertres,” Tumulak said.

He said that Capa has ordered the special units and the Homicide Section to expedite the investigation into the shooting incidents to give justice to the victims.

Capa was concerned about the report that some shooting incidents do not often result in the filing of cases because the family of the victim would want to exact revenge.

“Wala nang hablaan. Bawian na lang,” Capa said.

Tumulak said the Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council personnel have placed tarpaulins with hotline numbers in the six to eight sitios of the barangay where most shooting incidents were reported.

“But we are not only focusing sa Barangay Inayawan because we all know that once the police operation will strengthen inside the Barangay Inayawan, adto nasad na’s mga tapad nga barangay. So, the Pardo police station will strengthen also the police visibility not only in Barangay Inayawan but also the surrounding barangays such as Bulacao, Cogon, Basak Pardo, and Poblacion Pardo,” he said. — (FREEMAN)
