CEBU, Philippines - The City Council has put on hold the implementation of seven barangay infrastructure projects worth P11 million.

The decision was made after Majority floor leader Margarita Osmeña said the city treasurer should first apprise the council of the city’s available funds. City Treasurer Diwa Cuevas is scheduled to appear during an executive session on August 22.

Among those affected by the move are road concreting and drainage problems.

During the council’s recent session, Councilor Roberto Cabarrubias filed seven resolutions seeking to authorize Mayor Michael Rama to sign on behalf of the city a contract with seven contractors for seven infrastructure projects.

These projects include a concrete lined canal with cover in Sitio Santo Niño/Nangka in Barangay Luz (P727,889.76), rehabilitation of a box type canal with movable inlet cover in  Sitios Nacua, De Los Reyes and Tugas in Barangay Mambaling (P2 million), and a drainage system (Phase 1) in Barangay Kinasang-an (P1.2 million).

Kinasang-an is one of the barangays identified to be flood-prone alongside Kasambagan, Labangon, Mabolo and Bonbon.

Road concreting with drainage system is also set for implementation in Lusaran-Paril in Barangay Paril (P2.4 million) and along Paril-Lusaran in Barangay Lusaran (P2.3 million).

Other projects set for implementation include the construction of a stone masonry slope protection in Sitio Robles in Barangay Pung-ol Sibugay (P703,226) and in Sitio Sandayong in Barangay Buhisan (P1.5 million).

Barangays Buhisan and Lusaran are among the barangays identified to be landslide-prone together with Binaliw, Guba, Pung-ol Sibugay, Sudlon II, Sudlon I, Sinsin, Pamutan, Sapangdaku, Adlaon and Kalunasan.  (FREEMAN)
