Sonny shuns 100 days report

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Former senator and now Toledo City Mayor John Henry “Sonny” Osmeña has brushed aside reporting of accomplishments for the first 100 days in office of elected officials.

But among the achievements he has mentioned was making the city drug-free in the first month in office as mayor.

“I don’t think anything can be measured in the terms of a hundred days,” Osmeña told reporters at the Capitol yesterday.

Osmeña said that he is also upgrading of tax base in the city so that they can reassess the real estate and business taxes to increase their income.

“You cannot do anything unless you have money,” he said.

Among the priorities of Osmeña is to address the “first and the foremost problem” in the city and in the mountain barangays which is water.

Most local chief executives especially those who are first time in office have reported their accomplishments on the first 100 days.

Among them is Daanbantayan Mayor Augusto Corro who delivered his first state of the municipality address (SOMA) last October 8.

Corro reflected back his election campaign when he promised the people for a new direction of positive change for the town.

My success or failure for delivering on this promise cannot be fully measured in 100 days, but the 100 days provides a good indication of where we are headed,” Corro said.

On top of his report was the successful operation against illegal fishing, illegal drugs and illegal gambling activities.

There were 15 operations and 21 persona arrested on illegal gambling, six operations and seven persons arrested on illegal drugs and four operations and 43 persons arrested on illegal fishing

“For the 100 days in our mutual effort to fight all kinds of illegalities in our town, we have scored high especially in the illegal drugs trade when we were able to catch the ‘big fish’,” Corro said.

Corro also reported some accomplishments on water system, resolving the issue on cemeteries, 152 scholars at the Cebu Technological University; livelihood trainings; free use of ambulance, and other social services.

“We have made significant progress in the first 100 days of my administration, but there are many tough challenges ahead. With all of us working together we can have the community that we all desire and deserve,” Corro said.— (FREEMAN)
