Jen’s sports inclinations impress Sam

- Ricky L. Calderon - The Freeman

Sam Milby described his “The Prenup” leading lady Jennylyn Mercado as “not your typical girl.” While he was kind of wary about working for the first time with the 2014 Metro Manila Film Festival best actress winner for “English Only Please,” Sam said he and Jennylyn had natural chemistry.

The Kapamilya actor also said that Jen is very professional, is a good actress and is kind. “It’s really a pleasure working with her,” he said.

Sam was amazed to find out that unlike other girls, Jen dabbles in sports. Jen does MMA (mixed martial arts), Muay Thai and is a triathlete as well. This explains her lean figure and why she was declared this year’s FHM’s sexiest woman.

According to director Jun Lana, Sam and Jen were both a delight to work with. They made the shoot of “The Prenup” in New York fun even if they only had a short time to finish everything. “The Prenup” tells the story of a couple who plans to get married but it seems the people around them are not that keen about their union, so they ask them to enter into a prenup agreement.

Will Sam and Jen find happily ever after with or without a prenup? The movie opens today in theaters nationwide. “The Prenup” also stars Jaclyn Jose, Gardo Versoza, Neil Coleta, Freddie Webb, Ella Cruz, and Dominic Ochoa.

Showbiz newcomer Kevin Poblacion was born on August 5, 1995 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. His parents were originally from Badiangan, Iloilo City who migrated to Canada to have a better life. His dad, Bernardo Poblacion, works as a custodian at the Burnaby School Board, a government school, while his mom is Jean Lopez Poblacion, who works as a private nurse. When Kevin was a year old, his family moved to Vancouver. Kevin is the youngest of two sons. His elder brother named Bryan.

He stayed in Iloilo for two years during his elementary grades to learn to speak Ilonggo. After that, he went back to Canada to pursue his studies. Now that he is much older, he finds the lifestyle in the Philippines to his liking. He is always saying that it is “So much more fun in Pinas. My heart is here! I am proud to be a Filipino-Canadian.”

Kevin was working at A@W Fastfood Restaurant prior to his decision to enter showbiz. Last April, his parents came home to the Philippines for a family reunion with Kevin and his brother. It is the dream of his parents that Kevin and his Kuya Bryan enter showbiz and hopefully become one of the famous actors of his generation. But it was only Kevin who decided to pursue that dream.

For his part, Kevin had always dreamed that someday, he will live in the Philippines to adapt our culture, and learn to speak and write Tagalog. He finished a Tourism and Flight Attendant course in Canadian Tourism College in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Since he came back to the Philippines last April, Kevin has decided to pursue his dream of becoming an actor. He got himself enrolled in an acting workshop at ABS-CBN’s Star Magic to hone his talents and discover his potential as an actor. He received his certificate of completion last August.

“I hope that I will be able to share my talent to my kababayans,” said Kevin, who has enrolled in an advanced acting workshop at ABS-CBN that will run for six months. He said he is taking further workshops to hone his craft.

Aside from his acting lessons, he is also brushing up on his Tagalog. He acknowledges that knowing the language is important to make progress in his acting career aside from allowing him to communicate well.
