Kris Aquino: Goodbye, showbiz

SHOWBIZ DRIBBLE - Salve V. Asis - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Kris and Bimby were scheduled to fly out on Saturday, two days after she revealed at a live interview on TV Patrol Thursday that she was leaving all her shows for the sake of her son.

She was big news last week after she accused her ex-husband James Yap of making advances at her when he visited their son last December. Kris has been granted by court a temporary protection order that prohibits James from coming near her and Bimby.

James denied the accusation and openly wept while presenting his side on TV. “I was about to leave and asked Bimb for a goodbye kiss. Bimb said ‘I don’t like,’ so I told him, ‘If you don’t kiss Papa, I will kiss Mama.’”

“I went to Kris and held her arm. I told Bimb, ‘Look, I’m gonna kiss your Mama.’ Then Kris suddenly said, ‘You’re hurting me.’”

James said he didn’t really hurt Kris. He also did not attempt to kiss her.

Then James exploded a bombshell of his own, saying Kris reminded him that her brother, President Aquino, still has three years left to his term. To James, it sounded like a threat.

James went to court to stop Kris and Bimby from leaving the country, but his petition was turned down.

In the interview, Kris said she was “turning my back on the world that nurtured me because I love my son more than my career.” Kris has three shows on ABS-CBN: the morning talk show KrisTV, the teleserye Kailangan Ko’y Ikaw and Pilipinas Got Talent.

She said she didn’t inform her sisters and her lawyer of her decision to quit her shows. “It was a decision I made on the way here because my heart was breaking seeing how much my son was suffering. At five years old, I owe him a future,” she said.

The spat went viral on social media, with fans of Kris and James taking sides.

Is Jay Leno being given the boot by NBC?

The Hollywood Reporter came out with an exclusive story that the network is yanking out the durable comedian from the Tonight Show and bringing in Jimmy Fallon as his replacement. Earlier rumors indicated that NBC is not happy with the program’s sagging ratings, triggering a heated exchange between Jay and NBC entertainment boss Bob Greenblatt.

During a Tonight Show episode last week, Jay jokingly referred to the network’s execs as
