Getting rid of head lice and mosquitoes

MANILA, Philippines - Head lice and mosquitoes can be the most dangerous parasites. They can be carriers of debilitating diseases such as dengue and hepatitis. Itchy scalp from lice, and fever with rashes from a dengue-carrying mosquito, are the most common symptoms.

A huge percentage of sufferers are kids. Lice infestation on kids are common since they play with each other under the sun most of the time due to their playful nature.

On the other hand, kids love to play hide-and-seek in dark areas of the house or bushy parts of the neighborhood, which are often nesting places of dengue-bearing mosquitoes. 

With these challenges in mind, Rhodesian Distributor launched recently its “Alis Kuto” and “Iwas Dengue” to raise awareness on proper hygiene and provide practical solutions to prevent head lice infestation and dengue.

“We educate the young ones and their parents on how our products, Oilganics Head Lice Shampoo, Oilganics Andiroba Herbal Lotion, Doggies Choice Pet House Cleanser and Oilganics Andiroba Insect Repellent Herbal Lotion, can be used to protect themselves from such parasites,” said Chester Dy, marketing manager of Rhodesian Distributor. 

“One advantage of using Oilganics products is that their key ingredients are based on natural plant extracts,” Dy said. 

Oilganics Head Lice Shampoo, for one, has quassinoids, an herbal extract that naturally repels lice. Other anti-lice shampoo products that are insecticide-based contain dangerous amounts of toxic pesticides in order to kill and remove lice.

“Unlike the insecticide-based products, quassinoids drives the lice away instead of killing them,” Dy said.

On the other hand, andiroba, the main ingredient of Oilganics Andiroba Herbal Lotion, is also herbal-based and comes from the extracts of the andiroba tree. Found in the Brazilian rainforests, the andiroba tree is a natural insect repellent.

Dy said it is wise to check the label on other insect repellent skin products first before buying to make sure that they can really protect, and not compromise one’s health.

The Doggies’ Choice Pet House Cleanser is also formulated to eliminate ticks and fleas that linger around the doghouse and other critical areas of the house. 

“Our pet house cleanser is a very potent insecticide for cleaning one’s home and surroundings to prevent most pests, mosquitoes and cockroaches included, from nesting,” Dy said.

Samples of these products were distributed to school children and their parents and guardians, so they can take the first step in eliminating these parasites and have a healthier and cleaner environment.

Now, Tondo in Manila is on their list of places to launch their Alis Kuto and Iwas Dengue campaigns, and other barangays in the provinces. “We would want to free the country from these pests, one barangay at a time,” Dy said.
