Cojuangco and Jackes top bill TRS Cup

MANILA, Philippines - Former congressman turned race car driver, Charlie Cojuangco dominated the 1st weekend of the TRS Cup powered by the Ford Fiesta in Batangas Racing Circuit by winning 2 out of 3 races. Cojuangco on board his GT40 liveried Ford Fiesta, outsmarted Bobby Horrigan and Team Hafale’s Stefan Wolf, who finished 2nd and 3rd respectively for the first race. It was not a clear road ahead for Cojuangco who span out and dropped into fourth place but slowly regained his top position by maintaining top speeds and overtaking his fellow competitors.

Cojuangco on the second race was able to pull ahead of the group, while German National Stefan Wolf, and Eric Choi, battled for 2nd. Choi overtook 2nd place sitter Wolf and when the German tried to over take him, he lost control and ended up in the tire barrier. Meanwhile, Ross Jackes and youngest driver Basti Escalante were battling for third when Escalante pushed too hard on the Casino turn, going off the track and colliding with Jackes as he forced his way back on the circuit. This incident forced both the Smart Bro (Escalante) and Pacific Jet (Jackes) Cars to retire. Choi ended up winning 2nd infront of Horrigan.

For the final race, a reversed grid was implemented, giving Jackes a headstart on pole position and kept it until the checkered flag. Behind him was Horrigan, who was almost overtaken by Cojuangco but was unable to do so before the chequered flag.
