Manila Water, Pasig City tie up for environmental movement
MANILA, Philippines - Ayala-led Manila Water has partnered with the local government of Pasig City through its “Toka Toka†program, the first and only environmental movement in the Philippines that focuses on educating the public on used water management.
In a recent Toka Toka partnership activity, Manila Water president Gerardo Ablaza Jr. turned over four bancas and 200 shirts and caps to the green police volunteers as support for their surveillance activities in and around the Pasig River.
Ablaza also turned over to the Pasig City government 1,000 bamboo seedlings which were used during the tree-planting activity also held on that day.
More than 2,000 Pasig City volunteers joined Manila Water in this activity held at Barangay San Miguel.
Manila Water provided over 2,000 reusable drinking bottles along with cleaning tools such as wheel barrows, shovels and twig cutters to the volunteers who participated in the activity on that day.
Toka Toka is Manila Water’s campaign focused on educating the general public on used water management.
Toka Toka zeroes in on simple acts that each individual can claim as their own “Toka†or share towards the ultimate goal of ensuring cleaner and safer rivers in Metro Manila.
Of particular attention is given to the three main tributaries in the metropolis: Marikina, Pasig and San Juan Rivers.
The four simple acts that each individual can own as their Toka are: (1) Magtapon ng basura sa tamang paraan; (2) Ipa-desludge o ipasipsip ang poso negro sa bahay; (3) Ipakonekta ang bahay sa sewer line ng Manila Water; (4) Suportahan ang mga proyekto ng Manila Water sa mga komunidad.
