FAST Logistics targets net-zero by 2050
MANILA, Philippines — The FAST Logistics Group is planning to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050 following the launch of its environmental, social and governance (ESG) strategy.
FAST Logistics is targeting to reduce direct carbon emissions by 55 percent by 2030 with 2023 as its baseline.
The company also pledged to cut Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions, reduce waste and packaging and invest in green technologies across its operations.
Scope 1 GHG emissions refer to direct carbon emissions of an entity while Scope 2 are indirect emissions associated with purchases of electricity, steam, heat or cooling.
“Our journey to net zero is a transformation of how we power, move and manage logistics,” FAST CEO for Logistics Manuel Onrejas Jr. said.
“Every step we take to cut emissions brings us closer to a future where sustainability drives competitiveness,” Onrejas added.
FAST Logistics also launched its ESG strategy that is anchored on four key priorities: customer satisfaction and welfare; safe and empowered workplace; transitioning to a low-carbon economy and strong governance and risk management.
The logistics firm said its sustainability commitments are significant since it operates the largest warehouse footprint in the country, covering two million square meters with more than one million pallet positions, a billion annual case throughput and has the largest transport fleet of over 3,100 trucks.
“FAST’s commitment goes beyond operations, aligned with its long-standing mission of providing Logistics Para sa Bayan. Logistics Para sa Bayan has always been about serving people and the planet. Logistics can be a force for both progress and sustainability,” Onrejas said.
FAST Logistics received the Sustainability and Green Logistics Award at the 2024 SCMAP Supply Chain Excellence Awards for pioneering the use of green technologies in Philippine logistics.
In early 2024, the company rolled out the industry’s first fully electric truck, which utilizes solar-powered EV charging stations, as well as GPS and AI dashcam.
Three of the firm’s major warehouses are also fully operating on 100 percent renewable energy, it said.
