2GO vessels now equipped with e-vehicle chargers

MANILA, Philippines — Shipping giant 2GO Group Inc. has signed a partnership with the Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines (EVAP) to support green mobility by equipping ships with chargers.

2GO said it has entered into a partnership with EVAP to support the charging needs of e-vehicles being shipped to other parts of the Philippines by way of sea.

2GO forwarding business unit head Faye Alonzo said the company has equipped two of its ships with EV chargers to ensure that e-vehicles are ready to run once they are unloaded.

In particular, 2GO said MV Masikap and MV Masinag are now capable of handling the transport of e-vehicles to other parts of the country. 2GO said it would install chargers in other ships in anticipation of higher demand for e-vehicles in the future.

2GO is one of the few logistics operators in the Philippines to install e-vehicle chargers in its sea freight services. The vessels also ply high-traffic routes, such as Manila-Davao-General Santos-Iloilo and Manila-Cebu-Manila, providing logistical support for e-vehicle distribution.

“With our reliable capabilities, we ensure the safe and efficient delivery of e-vehicles across the Philippines,” Alonzo said.

“The growing demand for e-vehicles in key cities where we operate – particularly in Cebu and in Davao – highlights our strategic role in supporting this transition,” she added.

EVAP president Edmund Araga said the partnership with 2GO could encourage motorists outside Metro Manila to consider shifting as they now have access to e-vehicle transport.

Specifically, Araga said the e-vehicle transition should be embraced in urban centers like Metro Manila Cebu, and Davao where greenhouse gas emissions are high. He emphasized the need for shippers like 2GO, as they provide the logistics to bring e-vehicles nationwide.

“It is crucial for us to embrace electric vehicles to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, especially in urban areas like Metro Manila, Cebu and Davao. Having a reliable logistics partner such as 2GO is essential to ensuring the nationwide availability and support of e-vehicles,” Araga said.

2GO offers four times weekly sailings to Cebu and twice a week services to Davao and General Santos City, providing customers with a dependable schedule for the shipping of goods.

As of April, Metro Manila hosts 74 charging points for e-vehicles across 18 areas, and the plan is to increase this number to nearly 100 by the end of the year.
