Louella Desiderio - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The Board of Investments (BOI) has approved the application for registration of Agro Azienda Inc. for its P195.5-million broiler chicken production project in Maragondon, Cavite.

Agriculture, fishery and forestry are among the activities that can quality for incentives under the 2020 Investment Priorities Plan which serves as the transitional Strategic Investment Priority Plan of the Corporate Recovery and Tax Incentives for Enterprises Act.

Agro Azienda expects to begin commercial operations in May.

The firm’s commercial production of broiler chicken is on a contact growing scheme with a big local company.

Broiler chickens are raised specifically for meat processing and/or final consumption.

The company, which has a capacity of 2.31 million birds per year, acquired brand new equipment to be installed in the facility.

The BOI said the firm would employ 10 direct workers, but the potential direct employment to be generated  based on the employment multiplier is estimated at 109 workers.

The BOI said the project can supply 3,696 MT of chicken or 0.19 percent and 0.20 percent of the Philippine Development Plan (PDP) target and the BOI production forecast for this year, respectively.

Citing the Supply Utilization Accounts of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), the BOI said poultry meat is the second most consumed meat after pork in the country.

Data from the PSA showed the country’s chicken production reached 1.81 million MT last year.
