PLDT bags P240 million LTO internet deal

Richmond Mercurio - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Telco giant PLDT Inc. has bagged the contract for the P240 million procurement of primary leased line subscription project of the Land Transportation Office (LTO).

This is seen to pave the way for better and faster internet connectivity for all LTO offices nationwide.

“With PLDT as primary internet service provider, and with two existing redundant leased lines, the LTO is assured of more reliable, cost-efficient, high availability, and almost zero downtime internet connectivity at its 229 LTO offices nationwide,” LTO assistant secretary Edgar Galvante said.

“We are trying to improve on the services we have been providing. Again, we are counting on the full support of PLDT in attaining our objectives,” Galvante added.

The P240 million procurement of primary leased line subscription project is under the DOTr road transportation IT infrastructure—LTO component B project.

Prior to the project, LTO offices relied on various internet service providers, resulting in frequent downtime and transaction delays.

“We are very happy to serve the government, the LTO. PLDT is more than happy to cooperate,” PLDT chairman and CEO Manuel V. Pangilinan said.

PLDT and its wireless subsidiary Smart Communications Inc. have been named as the country’s fastest fixed and mobile networks for 2018 by global leader in internet testing and analysis Ookla.

In its latest report covering the third to fourth quarter of 2018, Ookla said PLDT achieved a speed score of 18.57, with top download speeds of 52.28 Mbps and top upload speeds of 55.95 Mbps.
