First Gen renews power supply deal with Cebu firm

Danessa Rivera - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Lopez-led First Gen Corp. has renewed its green energy supply contract with a Cebu-based food manufacturer.

In a statement, First Gen said integrated food-manufacturing firm General Milling Corp. (GMC) renewed its contract for a seven-megawatt (MW) supply of clean, reliable and renewable energy.

Under the new contract, First Gen will supply GMC’s facility in Lapu-Lapu City — its biggest — with electricity coming from Energy Development Corp. (EDC),  the renewable energy arm of First Gen.

“We chose to renew with First Gen and EDC because aside from the pure renewable energy that they provide, we are very satisfied with their service. It is just like a renewal of vows for us,” said GMC executive vice president Joselito Parco.

GMC has been providing quality flour and bakery products for more than 50 years.

From its first milling facility that was established in the mid-70s, GMC has expanded to animal feeds, corn mill, and the manufacturing and sales of consumer goods like snack food, pasta, instant noodles, edible oil and coffee.

Late last year, EDC forged a green energy supply with global automotive parts company Continental Temic Electronics Philippines to power up its facilities in Calamba, Laguna.

The contract covers a two-year period for the supply of 2.7 MW of geothermal power from EDC’s BacMan geothermal project, which commenced on Dec. 26, 2018.

Continental Temic develops and manufactures components, modules and systems for the automotive industry. Its corporate strategy is focused on climate protection and energy efficiency.

First Gen is the country’s leading clean and renewable energy producer with 3,490 MW  in installed capacity.

EDC is one of the world’s largest geothermal producers and the country’s leading renewable energy company with an installed capacity of 1,471.8 MW.

For over 40 years, EDC has been implementing comprehensive environmental management programs that enhance the ecosystem and corporate social responsibility programs that ensure inclusive growth for its partner communities.
