MANILA, Philippines — Republic Cement and Building Materials Inc., the infrastructure unit of Cebu-based conglomerate Aboitiz Group, in partnership with CRH,  is studying initiatives to  expand on the back of the government’s plan to usher in the so-called golden age of infrastructure in the country.

Republic plans to improve clinker and cement capacity for its plants in Teresa and Batangas and cement production in Iligan.

Aboitiz Construction Inc., the construction arm of Cebu-based conglomerate Aboitiz Group, will partner with Republic Cement for the cement company’s site improvements.

In particular, Aboitiz construction will lend capability and expertise to Republic Cement for two high-value projects in Bulacan and Cebu.

The recently-inked project contracts call for structural and mechanical works to be completed by Aboitiz Construction in Republic Cement’s Bulacan and Cebu sites in 11 months.

Republic’s plants and sites are in Bulacan, Norzagaray, Teresa, Rizal, Batangas, Cebu and Iligan.

Republic Cement has worked with Aboitiz Construction on some of its projects since 2017.

“Much is expected by Republic Cement, and so we aim to do this right and on schedule. We will be able to accomplish this with everyone’s support and cooperation,” said Albert Ignacio Jr., Aboitiz Construction president and COO.

Republic Cement is studying initiatives to expand, said Nabil Francis, Republic Cement Services Inc. president.

“Our investment activities are geared toward ensuring the stable supply of construction materials in support of the Philippine government’s Build Build Build campaign. Ultimately, our goal is to help build a stronger republic,” Francis said.

Republic Cement is a leading local cement manufacturing and distribution company in the Philippines with a nationwide footprint.

It is a partnership of CRH, a leading global diversified building materials group and a Fortune 500 company and Aboitiz.

Meanwhile, Aboitiz Construction, a registered triple A general contractor with the Philippine Contractors Accreditation Board, has over 40 years of construction, fabrication, engineering and project management services, according to its profile.

It has a regular workforce of over 600 engineers, technicians and administrative professionals supported by a ready pool of over 5,000 skilled personnel.

The Aboitiz Group has several businesses such as banking, property, power, food, and infrastructure. It is among the country’s biggest conglomerates with strong presence nationwide and with Cebu as its stronghold.
