Apple One breaks ground for Sheraton hotel in Cebu

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A subsidiary of AppleOne Properties Inc. started recently the construction of The Sheraton Cebu Mactan Resort and The Residences in its bid to further boost tourism and the local economy in Cebu.

“We are excited with this auspicious start of our partnership with Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. as we believe the project would boost the local economy as well as ramp up to a higher level of the hospitality industry for the region,” said Ray Go Manigsaca, president of AppleOne Mactan.

Sheraton is the second oldest brand of Starwood with over 435 hotels and 88 resorts in more than 70 countries worldwide.

Manigsaca led the groundbreaking that begins construction of the one-of-a-kind mixed-use hotel and residential development on a five-hectare property site overlooking both Hilutungan Channel and Magellan Bay’s blue expanse.

“In 2020, Cebu will be a major airport hub in Asia Pacific with the expansion of the Mactan Cebu International Airport. Our vision is to be a significant part of the region’s tourism growth as well as developing leisure properties that will continue to attract both international and local travellers,” Manigsaca added.

The Sheraton Cebu Mactan Resort will have 250 rooms and suites, function space totaling 1,313 square meters ideal for meetings, weddings, banquets and big group events. It will also offer three dining venues and an enhanced lobby lounge.

Property offerings would also include the Shine Spa and recreational facilities such as lagoon swimming pools and state-of-the-art Sheraton Fitness, all to be enjoyed in 2019.

Manigsaca said the company has initially set aside nearly P5 billion for the development of the property.

“The hotel and leisure living would introduce a new residential lifestyle in Mactan, and Cebu in general.  The project is the first branded resort residential development of Sheraton in SouthEast Asia,” said Cyndy Tan Jarabata, president of Tajara Leisure and Hospitality Group, AppleOne Mactan’s exclusive marketing partner.

The Residences at Sheraton Cebu Mactan Resort will feature 186 units consisting of one- to three-fitted bedroom apartments, resident’s lounge, meeting rooms, an upper garden amenity floor, recreational facilities such as fitness center, yoga room and large lagoon pools, and access to the beach club and other resort facilities.

‘We expect nothing but the best for our residential buyers as all units will be serviced by Sheraton,” Tan-Jarabata added. “Unit owners will have easy access to the resort facilities including room service, housekeeping, maintenance and other hotel conveniences provided by an international operator, allowing residents to enjoy unparalleled resort-style living.”

The resort development is designed by Clint Nagata, founder of world-renowned Blink Design Group, which specializes in creating luxury hotels. ‘Our team drew inspiration from the surrounding cliffs, beaches and exposed rocks in formulating the architectural design while there was careful thought and innovative process in creating contemporary interiors with tropical aesthetics and local touches that even the smallest detail are at par with global standards and that living here is a true experience in modern luxury’, Nagata said.
