PSE, SEC prep companies for Asean integration
MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) are teaming up to prepare the country’s listed firms in the upcoming ASEAN integration next year.
In a notice, the operator of the Philippine’s only stock market and the country’s corporate regulator said they are setting up a corporate governance forum for key officers of publicly-listed companies.
The forum would update listed companies on regulatory and legislative developments on corporate governance and discuss ways to improve the performance of Philippine listed companies in the ASEAN corporate governance scorecard.
“These updates and discussions would be useful in developing local policy and practice improvements for both Philippine listed companies and regulators, in preparation for the coming ASEAN Integration in 2015,” the PSE and SEC said.
The market operator and corporate regulator said attendance to the forum would be deemed in compliance with the SEC memorandum circular on the requirement for the board of directors and key officers of publicly-listed companies to attend a corporate governance training only with SEC-accredited training providers.
The PSE-SEC governance forum is scheduled to happen on October 21.
“Due to the expected turnout, there will be a limit of two participants per company. Additional participants shall be waitlisted,” the PSE and SEC said.
