CIDG nabs trader over fake motorcycle accessories

MANILA, Philippines — A Chinese businessman is facing criminal cases for selling counterfeit motorcycle accessories worth over P5 million in Valenzuela.
The 47-year-old suspect, identified only as Quing, was charged for violations of Republic Act 8293, or the Intellectual Property Code, and RA 7394, also known as the Consumer Act.
Maj. Gen. Robert Alexander Morico II, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group chief, said CIDG operatives arrested Quing during a sting operation in Barangay Malinta at 3:20 a.m.
Morico said Quing was caught with brake pump cables, suspensions, gas cylinder hoses and other motorcycle accessories valued at P5.02 million.
The businessman has been under surveillance after a company accused him of selling counterfeit products using their brand.
Morico said the exclusive rights of trademark owners of their intellectual property, including brands and products, are protected by the government.
“The state protects the interests of consumers, promotes general welfare and establish standards of conduct for business and industry,” Morico said.
He urged consumers and trademark owners to report counterfeiting and illegal trading activities in their communities.
