Grupo ikinabahala DND appointment ni Teodoro dahil sa 'human rights abuses'
MANILA, Philippines — Ayaw magpakampante ng ilang progresibong grupo sa pagkakatalaga kay Gilbert Teodoro bilang bagong kalihim ng Department of National Defense—bagay na nanguna raw noon sa "human rights violations" noong panahon ni dating Pangulong Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.
Lunes ng gabi lang nang italagang Defense secretary ni Pangulong Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. si Teodoro, na dati nang hinawakan ang parehong posisyon sa DND mula 2007 hanggang 2009.
"Recycling Gilbert 'Gibo' Teodoro as DND secretary is an apparent concession to the Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo camp. Gibo, a former legislator and a losing presidential candidate is, in fact, an alter-ego of Macapagal-Arroyo," wika ng Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas kagabi.
"During his stint as DND secretary from 2007 to 2009, Teodoro has done nothing but make excuses and even justify destructive bombings in Mindanao and Oplan Bantay Laya—the bloodiest and most brutal counterinsurgency campaign unleashed on Filipinos by then-president GMA."

Sa datos ng human rights group na Karapatan, sinasabing 1,206 ang mga naging biktima ng extrajudicial killings sa ilalim ni Arroyo mula Enero 2001 hanggang 2010. Bukod pa ito sa 206 na dinukot at hindi na natagpuan.
Aabot sa 320 EJKs at 43 enforced disappearances ang diumano'y nangyari sa ilalim ng pamumuno ni Teodoro, na noo'y nangangasiwa sa pagpapatakbo ng Armed Forces of the Philippines.
"Gibo is also a known AmBoy (American Boy) with his staunch support for the Visiting Forces Agreement, the RP-US Balikatan exercises, and the continuation of the cheap labor policy and the import-dependent, export-oriented set-up of the local economy," dagdag pa ng KMP noong Lunes.
Matatandaang kumandidato noon si Teodoro sa pagkapangulo noong 2010 presidential elections sa ilalim ng partidong Lakas-Kampi ngunit natalo ng kanyang second cousin na si dating Pangulong Noynoy Aquino.
Si Arroyo, na siyang kinatawan ngayon ng Pampanga, ang tumatayong chairperson emeritus ng LAKAS-CMD. Kamakailan lang nang i-demote siya sa Kamara at gawing deputy speaker na lamang. Kilala siyang kaalyado ni Bongbong.
DND, Galvez todo suporta
Saludong-saludo naman ngayon ang pamunuan ng kagawaran at ng officer-in-charge nito na si DND Senior Undersecretary Carlito Galvez Jr.
"The Department of National Defense welcomes the appointment of Atty. Gilberto C. Teodoro, Jr. as the new Secretary of National Defense," ani Galvez sa isang pahayag ngayong Martes.
"I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the President and Commander-in-Chief, His Excellency Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr., for entrusting me to lead the Department over the last few months."
Pinasalamatan din ni Galvez, na nagsilbing "caretaker" ng DND habang wala pang kalihim noon, ang kabuuan ng One Defense Team, AFP, civilian bureaus atbp. na siyang sumuporta habang gumagampan pa bilang OIC ng departamento.
"We have achieved great strides in our priority programs on internal security, territorial defense, disaster preparedness, and the continued development of the defense organization," aniya.
