MANILA, Philippines — Ganap nang batas ang Philippine HIV and AIDS Policy Act na layong palakasin ang programa ng gobyerno kontra human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) at acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS).

Hindi kasi na-pirmahan o na-veto ng Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte ang dati'y panukalang batas 30 araw matapos ipasa ng Kamara at Senado.

Layon ng batas na maiwasan ang pagkalat ng HIV at AIDS at magamot ang mga dumaranas nito.

Alinsunod sa batas, itatatag din ang Philippine National Aids Council (PNAC) at papalitan ang dating umiiral na Philippine AIDS Prevention and Control Act of 1998.

Inaabangan naman ng mga advocates ang paglalabas ng implementing rules and regulations (IRR) ng batas.

Inihain ito noong ika-13 ng Marso 2017 nina Sen. Risa Hontiveros, Sen. Loren Legarda, Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV, Sen. Sonny Angara, Sen. Grace Poe, Sen. Nancy Binay, Sen. Manny Pacquiao at Sen. Cynthia Villar. 

Umabot na sa 276 na ang namamatay mula sa HIV/AIDS mula Enero hanggang Hulyo ngayong taon habang 32 ang nahahawa ng HIV kada-araw ayon sa Department of Health.
