Olmin Leyba - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Patrick Unso dominated the men’s 110-meter hurdles then joined the 4x100m crew in a record-breaking silver-feat at the close of the Hong Kong Inter-city Athletics Championships in Hong Kong Sunday.

Unso clocked 14.02 seconds to rule his pet event over The Citizen Athletic Association (TCAA) of Hong Kong’s Chan Chung Wang (14.10) and compatriot Clinton Kingsley Bautista (14.20) give the Filipinos’ their fifth gold medal in the two-day meet.

The 24-year-old Unso later teamed up with Archand Bagsit, Trenten Beram and Anfernee Lopena in going sub-40 in the 4x100m race. The quartet submitted 39.96 to shatter the Phl standard of 40.29 set by Beram, Lopena, Eric Cray and Joma Udtohan at the National Open in Isabela last March.

Hong Kong’s Team A beat the Filipino foursome for the gold with a time of 39.77 while the host’s Team B took the bronze with 48.22.

Edgardo Alejan (men’s 400m) and Eloisa Luzon (women’s 100m) delivered a silver in their respective events while Michael Carlo del Prado (men’s 400m), and Bautista (men’s 110-m hurdles) each collared a bronze in the final day.

Unso’s winning effort followed up the golden outings of Janry Ubas and Katherine Khay Santos in long jump and Luzon and Bagsit in the 200, hostilities on opening day.
