‘Blown-away’ by art

Blown-Away,” a three-day lecture-demonstration on the astonishing art of glass blowing, was recently held at the Museo Orlina in Tagaytay City, in cooperation with the Czech Embassy of the Philippines. A revolution in glass art went underway as the guests, students, sculptors and glass art enthusiasts, were treated to the first-ever glass blowing lecture in the Philippines. Led by Filipino glass sculptor Ramon Orlina and Czech glass artist Jiri Pacinek, the lecture showcased Bohemian glass, which is known all over the world for its high quality and beauty. “Blown-Away” also served as a solo exhibition of Pacinek’s one-of-a-kind glass creations at the museum’s Reflections Gallery. The exhibit’s ceremonial opening was graced by the presence of Czech Ambassador Jaroslav Olsa Jr. and National Artists for Literature Francisco Sionil Jose and Bienvenido Lumbera. “Blown-Away” runs until Jan. 29. A musical birthday

Nene Pe Lim recently celebrated her birthday in true Nene fashion. With her loving husband Benny Pe Lim by her side, the Friends for Cultural Concerns of the Philippines (FCCP) director and music aficionada chose to celebrate via a mini-concert held in her honor. During “A Night of Pop and Classics at the Conservatory of The Peninsula Manila,” the stunning socialite was serenaded with a repertoire of well-loved songs from several operas and the latest in pop music. What made the evening even more special was the presence of Nene and Benny’s pride and joy, their wonderful children – Benedict, Lyra, Nathan, Girlie, Michael, Aileen, and Michelle. The celebrator and all her guests enjoyed an evening of excellent music, scrumptious food, and delightful company.
