Iloilo hosts Race for Iloilo River duathlon
MANILA, Philippines – The City of Iloilo is hosting the Philippine Duathlon Championships 2016: Race for the Iloilo River on Sept. 17.
The City Government of Iloilo, headed by Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog and the Triathlon Association of the Philippines (TRAP), are jointly organizing the run-bike-run event which also aims to support efforts to clean and redevelop the Iloilo River.
Supported by the Philippine Sports Commission, the event will be composed of standard distance (10K run-40K bike-5K run) and sprint distance (5K run-20K bike-2.5K run) courses which start and finish at the promenade of the Iloilo River where participants and spectators get a clear view of the river.
Iloilo City Vice Mayor Jose Espinosa assured participants of different age groups that while the race will be competitive, the local atmosphere will still be friendly with the warm welcome Iloilo residents are known for.
At stake for the winners are attractive prizes in cash and in-kind.
Adding depth to the field is the participation of the national duathlon team, including Mirasol Abad, Miscele Gilbuena, Bigboy Estevez and John Chicano.
Registration starts July 1. Entry fees are P1,000 for the sprint distance and P1,500 for the standard distance.
