Wigo easy in Siargao

The new Wigo in Orange Metallic shade unveiled in the sandy beaches of Siargao Island

Summer went by too soon. Like a student, I felt a mixture of excitement and a tinge of sadness as I went back to school this week to resume teaching at San Beda Graduate Law School›s Masters of Law program. And like all students, I look back at my summer breaks reminiscing about memorable trips.

Part of this summer’s highlights was Toyota’s Road Trek 2017.  The Road Trek is an annual Toyota tradition and has become, as a consequence, a traditional event for members of the motoring media as well. This year, the Road Trek took us to Siargao, the country›s surfing capital.

Driving from the airport, we immediately took in the beauty of agricultural fields, greenery lined with coconut trees, and stretches of beaches. Coming from the busy and crowded streets of Metro Manila, I immediately felt the soothing and peaceful ambiance in Siargao. Looking around, i noticed several foreign tourists in Siargao. One of the tourists said that the «fun atmosphere» and the «easy-going lifestyle» drew him to Siargao.

Siargao was a terrific venue for the traditional drive and contests that characterize the Road Trek. As motoring journalists were broken up into teams, each team had the opportunity to drive a Toyota vehicle through the beautiful landscape of Siargao.

Siargao was a fitting venue to also unveil the new Toyota Wigo. If I had to choose one adjective to describe the Wigo, it›s «easy.” After its first launch in the Philippines in 2014, the Wigo has become widely popular due to its easy-to-own, easy-to-drive and easy-to-enjoy features and attributes.

The new Wigo looks sportier with its redesigned exterior. Among other things, changes are immediately apparent in the bumper, grille, and wheels. The interior has also been redesigned with new seat patterns, door trims and new features, including steering wheel audio switches (which allows effortless access to music) and navigation-ready audio system.

The newest shade is an Orange Metallic that highlights the energetic personality of the new Wigo. The hatchback also retains its “easy to own” factor with the suggested retail prices ranging from around P526,000 (for the Wigo 1.0E MT) to P564,000 (for the Wigo 1.0 G MT) and P599,000 (for the Wigo 1.0G A T).

Part of the summer’s appeal is that life feels “easy” during summer vacation. Most of us yearn to be students again just to have that carefree «summer break.” On these breaks, we are momentarily free from the stress and demands of schoolwork or other responsibilities associated with school. For adults who are done with school, the Wigo reminds us that life can be as easy as summer all year round.
