Kulot de Guzman is really Kulot Dimaganti

MANILA, Philippines — Reynaldo “Kulot” de Guzman is really Kulot Dimaganti.
Doubts on the identity of 14-year-old Kulot started swirling after the Philippine National Police released the results of its DNA test on the body found floating in a creek in Gapan, Nueva Ecija.

Kulot was borne to parents Eduardo Sta. Ana Gabriel and Lina De Guzman-Dimaganti on March 12, 2003 at Gat Andres Hospital in Tondo, Manila.
In their complaint-affidavit filed before the Department of Justice on Thursday, the couple said that they are living together out of wedlock. “Sa aming pagsasama ay nagkaroon kami ng limang anak. Isa sa aming mga anak ay si Reynaldo de Guzman alyas Kulot,” Lina said.
Kulot should have been a Dimaganti, following Lina’s surname, but she said the hospital made a mistake when it filled out Kulot’s certificate of live birth.
“Ang nakarehistrong pangalan ni Kulot ay Reynaldo de Guzman dahil noong inirehistro siya ng nasabing hospital ay nagkaroon ng pagkakamali,” Lina narrated.
“Sa halip na ang nailagay na apelido ay Dimaganti ang nailagay ay ang gitnang pangalan ni Lina na ‘De Guzman,”” the complaint-affidavit further reads.

Lina recalled in the complaint-affidavit that Kulot is a good kid. “Sa katunayan ay madalas siyang yumayakap sa amin,” she added.
Kulot was last seen with 19-year-old Carl Arnaiz on the night of August 17 in Cainta, Rizal. The body of Arnaiz was found 11 days later at a funeral home in Caloocan City.
The 19-year-old former University of the Philippines student reportedly robbed a taxi driver and fired back at responding policemen, prompting the authorities to shoot him.
On September 6, Lina said that she was informed by Eduardo that their son was found dead in Gapan, Nueva Ecija.
The said body sustained almost 30 wounds and its head wrapped with a cloth and tape.
Kulot’s family and kin laid to rest the remains at Pasig City Public Cemetery despite doubts on the body’s identity.
