6 OFWs ordered repatriated from Russia

Alexis Romero - The Philippine Star

MOSCOW – President Duterte has ordered the repatriation of six overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) here who violated immigration laws, Ambassador Carlos Sorreta said yesterday.

The six OFWs will be repatriated in a few days, but not together with the President when he returns to the country.

“We will repatriate them but it has to undergo a process,” Sorreta said in a press briefing.

“They will go home directly to the Philippines. We will provide them with travel documents, but they cannot use this in other countries,” he said

Sorreta said the distressed workers – five of them women – would not be facing charges because the Philippine embassy assured the Russian government that they would not return to work.

“We are taking care of them and the Russian authorities know that they won’t be working. They are taking our word for it that they won’t run away or look for another job,” he said.
