‘Pulisteniks’ fitness program launched
MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine National Police (PNP) launched last week a summer sports training program for its personnel to enhance their physical fitness.
Dubbed “Pulisteniks†or policemen engaged in calisthenics, the program will not only require basic physical activities like running, walking, jogging, biking and zumba but will also emphasize combat sports to improve the physical and mental states as well as morale of PNP personnel, according to Chief Superintendent Reuben Theodore Sindac, chief of the PNP public information office.
Sindac told The STAR on Wednesday that Pulisteniks is meant to enhance the commitment and participation of PNP personnel in activities involving physical health and wellness.
He said the PNP believes in the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle among its ranks because it is considered an essential element for effective law enforcement.
“Physical fitness is both an individual and organizational responsibility, and every PNP personnel should be physically fit to perform strenuous and rigorous police duties,†he said.
Sindac said there are training sessions in arnis, aikido, basketball, boxing, ballroom dancing, badminton, chess, karate-do, judo, lawn tennis, muay thai, swimming, table tennis and taekwondo.
All PNP personnel, non-uniformed personnel, PNP dependents and other civilians who are duly sponsored or endorsed by PNP personnel could take part in the program.
“Camaraderie, discipline and other positive values are also expected to be acquired through active participation in the aforementioned sports,†Sindac said.
Registration for Pulisteniks is ongoing at the PNP Sports Center Office at Camp Crame in Quezon City.
