A snack-tacular Sunday

Kathy Moran - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Snacking has always been everyone’s tasty guilty pleasure, mine included. And any event that involves making my own snacks in flavors that I love I don’t miss out on. So one Sunday a few weeks back, I went to check out the Oishi Snacktackular event at Glorietta.

The Snacktacular event was a celebration of 40 years that Oishi has provided Filipinos with a variety of snack options to choose from.

From its iconic Prawn Crackers to new and innovative options such as Marty’s Cracklin’ vegetarian chicharon and vitamin C-filled Smart C+, Oishi has satisfied tummies and taste buds across the country.  The event gave me and other longtime fans of the brand the opportunity to snack in the most unique way through a series of customization activities of our favorite products.

I had a chance to be a snack creator, choosing between various chip bases, flavors, and designing my own packaging. Oishi encouraged us to be as imaginative as we could be at the “Make Your Own Snack” booth. From White Cheddar Prawn Crackers to Wasabi and Ketchup Veggie Chicharon, the brand had a selection of six different snack bases and up to 12 types of flavors to choose from when making these personalized snacks.

I really had so much fun at the mixing station where I got to pick which snack I like best — from chips, to potato sticks, to prawn crackers — and mix a teaspoon full of my favorite flavors, which were in powder form.  I mixed wasabi with cheese and barbecue flavors into the chips and potato sticks I had picked for my snacking pleasure. The result: a really spicy and yummy snack.

But that was only part of the day’s highlights.  I must say that I had never seen Glorietta so packed with screaming fans, who were eagerly awaiting their favorite Oishi ambassadors. As I snacked on my concoction I witnessed just how the fans screamed each time an Oishi ambassador made it into the mall.

It was a cool afternoon for the fans, who waited patiently as they were able to meet their favorite Team O! Ambassadors such as Slater Young, Ramon Bautista, Elmo Magalona, Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla, who were similarly making snacks of their own.

We were also introduced to the oat milk drink, Oishi Oaties Milk. The best part was that it was served as soft-serve ice cream at the O-Twirl booth! Perfect when topped with sweet Oishi snacks like Sponge Crunch and Pillows.  Apart from these delicious snack experiences, Oishi lovers also enjoyed other unique activities and surprises like Snack Shack, Jump Pack, and Crackters. The brand showed everyone what it feels like to be inside an Oishi pack.

Other popular activities included the SnackAttack, where guests were able to fill an oversized Oishi bag with their favorite Oishi snacks. Also having fun were celebrity guests Billy Crawford, Coleen Garcia, and Rhian Ramos, who were seen happily munching away on their own creations.

The event was capped by surprise performances by Team O, which surely served as one of the highlights of the two-day event. Elmo Magalona engaged fans with his energetic and crowd-moving performance, which was followed by a duet by Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo.
