Creating a teen’s beauty arsenal

STYLE S.O.S. - The Philippine Star

Dear Lucy,

I love makeup and I have a teenage daughter who, I realize now, seems to love makeup, too. Perhaps it is the influence. At any rate, I feel she likes makeup way too much and considering her skin is perfect, she does not need much, really. How can I convince her?

She really enjoys sitting in front of my makeup table and trying on everything.

Wena

I think your teenager, more than anything, enjoys the process. She likes the idea of playacting and pretending to be all grown-up and having someplace to go, just like mommy. Yes, for most little girls, there really is something about being in front of the dresser and tinkering with makeup.

Why don’t you teach her what she should and should not use? Emphasize to her how, especially when blessed with perfect skin, very minimal makeup is needed. Better yet, why don’t you get her her own set? It can include: her very first set of brushes; blush; lip and cheek tint; ambient powder (lighting powder that looks just gorgeous on perfect skin, try the brand Hourglass); clear mascara (to groom the brows); lip balm; lipsticks (different colors so she feels she has a lot of choices); and a lash curler.

The idea is to give her her own arsenal but limited only to products that will enhance her youth and natural beauty.                                                                         Lucy
