Values development to form part of skills training in Yaw-Yan

(The Freeman) - April 8, 2021 - 12:00am

CEBU, Philippines — Driven by his ardent desire to mold topnotch martial artists with great character, Yaw-Yan ArDigma founder Master Benigno “Ekin” R. Caniga, Jr. will be incorporating values development in the skills training of their students in their annual summer clinic, which will start today at the Yaw-Yan headquarters situated at the fourth floor of Coast Pacific Downtown Center just across UC-Main along Sanciangko Street, Cebu City.

“Being a good martial artist is not just about skills. The most important thing is showing respect and humility to others, treating every person with decency and kindness,” said Master Ekin, who is also the head of Muay Thai Association of the Philippines-Visayas.

“Respect and martial arts are interwined. That is the reason why we are having “Values Development Through Sports” as theme for our Yaw-Ya ArDigma Summer Clinic 2021,” he added.

Also known as “Sayaw ng Kamatayan (Dance of Death)”, Yaw-Yan is a unique Filipino style of kickboxing.

Introduced to the public by Grandmaster Napoleon “Nap” Fernandez in 1972, Yaw-Yan includes elements of striking, takedowns, grappling, arnis stick and knife fighting among others. Since then, it has gained popularity in the country’s kickboxing scene and has proven to be very effective against other stand-up fighting arts.

Aside from the complete Yaw-Yan Ardigma system, Master Ekin said they will also be offering several other training programs such as arnis/eskrima, boxing fitness, mixed martial arts, Yaw-Yan combat for self defense, and full-contact system for tactical self-defense.

Those who are bent on joining the month-long camp that will be held under strict health and safety protocols can choose their time of preference for training within four alternate sessions from 9 am to 9pm.

Enrollment is still going on. For further details, interested parties may contact 0943-6568900. — EBV
