Fewer crimes this November compared to last

CEBU, Philippines — Strong community participation and proactive governance are some of the factors being attributed to the significant crime deterrence in the city for the month of November this year, said the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO).

For November 2025, the CCPO recorded a notable 52.07% drop in major crime incidents compared to the data in the same month last year.

Based on reports, the total reported index and non-index crimes in Cebu City declined from 550 cases in November 2025 down to 319 in November 2025.

Particularly, data showed that almost all of the index crimes were reduced. The murder cases in Cebu City decreased from 12 to one reported incident, while one homicide case was reported this year compared to none last year.

Last year’s reports on eight rape cases went down to none, physical injuries also fell from 11 to two, robbery lessened from eight to one, theft from 37 to four, and motorcycle carnapping from one to none.

Meanwhile, non-index crimes also tallied a remarkable decrease from 437 to 261.

In a statement, CCPO said that the overall crime drop marked a notable achievement for the city police’s strengthened efforts against crimes and their data-driven law enforcement strategies.

Accordingly, the community-centered approach of CCPO played a crucial role in upholding public safety within the city.

“The consistent decrease in criminality is also attributed to strong community participation, proactive local governance, and multi-sectoral partnerships, all of which demonstrate the powerful impact of collective effort in promoting public safety,” part of the statement read.

CCPO also highlighted that the relaunching of Oplan Pakigsandurot --a community-based anti-criminality program led by city government in collaboration with the city police-- further strengthened the participation of the grassroots communities in protecting public safety and security.

To recall, the said initiative, which started in 2001, was relaunched earlier in July this year.

With the recent achievements, the CCPO reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying their anti-crime operations and peace and order measures in Cebu City. — (FREEMAN)
