Capitol breaks ground on P76.4 million road projects

CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu Provincial Government has officially commenced construction on three road projects in Carcar City, marking a significant step toward improved infrastructure in the area.

Governor Gwendolyn Garcia, Carcar City Mayor Patrick Barcenas, and First District Representative Rhea Mae Gullas led the groundbreaking ceremony for the road enhancement initiatives in Barangay Calidngan on Tuesday, April 15, 2025.

The Capitol has allocated a total of P76.4 million for the projects, aimed at improving mobility and stimulating economic growth in this upland barangay of southern Cebu.

The first project involves the concreting of a 0.431-kilometer segment of the sitio proper barangay road, with a budget of P4.45 million.

The second, a significantly larger undertaking, covers the construction of a 5.164-kilometer road connecting sitios Lunas, Latab, and Pit-Os, with a funding allocation of P55.6 million.

According to Sugbo News, the Capitol’s official media arm, both road segments are classified as barangay roads.

Following provincial government standards, the roads will be five meters wide and paved with six inches of concrete.

Meanwhile, the third project spans 0.9367 kilometers, extending from sitio Sac-Sac to Balungag. This road is classified as a provincial road and will be 6.10 meters wide with a cement thickness of nine inches. The project has a budget of P16.3 million.

Once completed, the road improvements are expected to enhance accessibility and connectivity for residents, while also increasing property values in the surrounding areas.

Each of the three road sections will also be equipped with solar-powered lampposts mounted on reinforced concrete pedestals, providing improved visibility and safety for both motorists and pedestrians, particularly at night. (CEBU NEWS)
