Talisay gets award anew for urban poor initiatives

CEBU, Philippines —  The City of Talisay gets back-to-back recognition in the Natatanging Lingkod Maralita Awards-LGU category from the Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor (PCUP) during its celebration of the Urban Poor Solidarity Week (UPSW) 2023 last December 7 in Quezon City.

The award is given to local government units and agencies that is committed to providing service to urban poor and informal settler families and giving them easier access to government programs for poverty reduction.

“Talisaynon, we've done it again! We're hoping to make it to the Hall of Fame again next year.

Padayun ta sa paglambo Talisay!” said Talisay City Mayor Samsam Gullas over his Facebook page as he announced the award the city received again this year.

“This award indicates that each organization's collaboration and coordination in pursuit of a common goal is effective,” added Gullas.

Along with this, Mayor Gullas extended his congratulations and appreciation to their Local Housing team headed by Atty Beverly Tutor “for their hard work and dedication in putting together a strong leadership for all homeowner associations”.

“Ang pagtinabangay ra gyud nato ang maghatag kanato og kadaugan ug kalambuan maong ato kining ipadayon,” Gullas stressed.

Aside from the city of Talisay, Cebu, the same recognition was given to the Quezon City government, along with Sorsogon and Davao City.

DSWD’s Field Office-7 also got the same award, but under the NGA class along with the Philippine National Police – National Capital Region (PNP-NCRPO), National Housing Authority – Region-5,  and DSWD Region-11.

The other awardees include Bagong Tatag na Isipanawell Inc., Samahang Pinagpalang Komunidad sa Olongapo, Inc. (SPKOI), San Pio Bethlehem Homeowners’ Association, Inc., anf Cell2 United Urban Poor Association under the  the Urban Poor Organization category and Gawad Kalinga Community Foundation, Inc., Inner Wheel Club (District 382), Fellowship for Organizing Endeavors (FORGE), Inc., and MCKS Caring Heart Foundation  under the  Civil Society Organization (CSO) class.(CEBU NEWS)
