Broadcaster’s house strafed; cops checking if work-related

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  The house of a radio broadcaster was strafed Tuesday night at Sitio Cogon, Barangay Poblacion 1, Carcar City, Cebu.

Arnel Bacalan, a radio commentator of Firing Line, a news, public affairs and commentary radio program of DyMN South Radio 102.9 News FM Carcar City, told The FREEMAN that when he was about to open his laptop, he saw one of the two suspects disembarked from a motorcycle fired at his house.

After the shooting, the suspects immediately fled to evade arrest.

Bacalan said there is a huge possibility that those who strafed his house could be men of a politician who was hit by his program and wanted to silence him.

The police’s Scene of the Crime Operation personnel recovered one slug and five shells from a .45 pistol.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Ardioleto Cabagnot, chief of the Carcar City Police Station, said that they are still investigating the motive of the shooting incident.

“Syempre naa sa media dili nato ma-discount ang possibility basin pud sa iyang trabaho dunay puy nahiubos o nasakitan sa iyang programa. Mao pud na atong gitan-aw nga angulo kung kinsa to mga tao medyo iyahang  nakomentaryohan sa iyang programa,” said Cabagnot. — Robhe Jane Yara, Romeo Marantal, GAN (FREEMAN)
