CEBU, Philippines — A new category for the Sinulog 2020 photo contest has been added, which is the Digital Art Photography category.

Digital art involves manipulating a photo using digital technology as part of the process.

For this category, the committee will allow a maximum of four photos to be merged in one photo, said Icky Salazar, cluster head of the Sinulog photo contest.

“Anything that they feel is appropriate for this category, with of course, the Sinulog theme in mind.  We will leave it to the creativity and artistic ability of the photographer to come up with the image they want to convey in their canvass,” said Salazar.

This is a new category in the photo contest, in which the committee hopes to attract more photographers and graphic artists to join.

“To even the playing field and to make sure that nobody goes overboard, the twist of this is we will only allow two images to be submitted, the sizing has to be bigger in print so the judges can appreciate fully,” said Salazar.

The sizes of the photos will be in 8R, while other categories will only be in 5R.

Each participant is allowed to submit 10 free photos, as per the excess photos, from last year’s 30 excess photos, the committee have raised it to 40 excess photos for the upcoming contest to give the photographers more option.

The registration fee was lowered to P3,000, from last year’s P3,500.

“The committee decided to lower the registration fee to make the photographers happy,” said Salazar.

The digital art category is not part of the judging process for the grand prize or the main category, it is a special category which the committee created to bring something new to the Sinulog photo contest.

The registration for the competition started last December 9, 2019 until January 4, 2020.

“We highly encourage everybody to sign up as soon as you can, because we only have a limit of 300 photographers this year,” said Salazar.

The committee has renamed some categories such as the Sidelights to Human Interest and the Contingent category is now called the Sinulog Parade. (FREEMAN)
