60-day dry run sought on cargo truck corridor

CEBU, Philippines - The  Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue (TEAM) has asked the City Council for a 60-day dry run before implementing the proposed industrial cargo truck corridor to allow continuous movement of trucks to and from the port.

TEAM operations head Glen Antigua earlier proposed to the City Council the implementation of the truck corridor going to the north via Cansaga Bridge and going to Lapu-Lapu City via Marcelo Fernan Bridge through Ouano Avenue, A. Soriano, D.M. Cortes and U.N. Avenue.

The truck corridor will allow cargo trucks to continue operation even during the truck ban period—5 a.m. to 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Antigua proposed the establishment of truck corridor during the meeting of the members of Mega Cebu last month after he observed that the truck ban is causing heavy traffic congestion at the North Reclamation Area.

"I do believe that this activity would help us attain our goal to ensure smooth flow of traffic within our city," Antigua said.

Vice Mayor Carlo Pontico Fortuna referred Antigua’s request to the Committee on Transportation, Communication and Public Utilities. (FREEMAN)
