For board member under one Cebu: Jonkie Ouano running to replace his father

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Mandaue City Councilor Emmarie “Lolypop” Ouano-Dizon said her brother Thadeo “Jonkie” Ouano is set to replace their father, the late Thadeo “Teddy” Ouano, in the race for Provincial Board member this coming election.

However, she said before this is final it will still be consulted with the rest of the Ouano Family, as there may be other family members interested to run for the position. She added that gubernatorial candidate Winston Garcia, being One Cebu’s standard bearer in the provincial race, will also have a say in their selection process.

Emie Bustillo, the spokeswoman of the Ouanos, also said the family is mulling having Jonkie take his father’s position in the PB. However, she also said the family plans to discuss this possibility only after Teddy is laid to rest on March 6.

Bustillo also said they plan to make inquiries with the Department of Interior and Local Government about how to proceed with the vacancy left by Teddy’s death.

However, the DILG said the Liberal Party will be the one to choose who will be their replacement of Teddy as PB member.

According to DILG Cebu Provincial Director Jerome Gonzales the party under which the official ran when he was elected will be the one who will choose his replacement and not the party he is currently affiliated with.

In the case of the late board member, Teddy ran and won under LP but later shifted to One Cebu.

Therefore it is still LP who gets to nominate who will fill in the vacant post and it will be the President of the Philippines who will appoint.

Gonzalez explained that the logic of this is to preserve the decision of the voters. He added that the number of political party members in the body as chosen by the voters shall remain balanced.

“Ang logic man gud ani is that, as much as possible i-preserve nato ag decision sa voters after the election” Gonzales said.  (FREEMAN)
