Kapuso breakout star Kyline Alcantara was chosen by GMA Network to host the online show of Starstruck Season 7, aptly titled “Inside Starstruck.” It started airing June 10 at the Youtube channel of Starstruck, where it will feature the journey of the hopefuls.

“I am thankful and overwhelmed,” says Kyline, who is hosting an online show for the first time. “I am thankful for the new challenge that GMA has given me as a host and I prepared for it. I will be delivering the behind-the-scene news, as well as juicy trivia and revelations from the hopefuls. I will also be the first to meet those who will be eliminated from the show.

She will also join the hopefuls in their journey on the Starstruck stage, as well as interact with the hosts (Dingdong Dantes and Jennylyn Mercado) and the council (Heart Evangelista, Ms. Cherie Gil, and Jose Manalo).

Kyline was starstruck when she first met Cherie Gil and couldn’t say a word, prompting the actress to say, “Can you talk?”

“I told her I was nervous and then I requested her to slap me because one item in my bucket list is to experience being slapped by her. She just laughed,” Kyline related.

Kyline joined a a contest for kids when she was eight years old but unfortunately, she was the first to be eliminated. While the incident made her sad, it didn’t dampen her spirits. Instead, she used the said incident to inspire her to be better the next time.

It didn’t cross her mind to join Starstruck. Nonetheless, she is very pleased that she was tapped by GMA to be the online host of the show.

“I believe GMA saw that I have the potential to be a good host and this chance to be the online host of Starstruck will certainly be a big help to hone my skills,” said the Kapuso star.

Award-winning actor Joem Bascon on Tuesday signed a contract to be part of the period film “Culion,” written by the iconic screenwriter Ricky Lee and directed by Gawad Urian best director winner Alvin Yapan.

This is Joem’s latest film since winning the FAMAS Best Supporting Actor award for “Double Twisting, Double Back” which he said “was the most challenging and difficult role he has done.”

But after reading the script of “Culion” which tells the story of people afflicted by leprosy during the 1940s, Joem said this new film is a lot harder compared to “Double Twisting, Double Back.”

“Culion” reunites him with Iza Calzado whom Joem first worked with in “Batanes” which was his baptism of fire, so to speak.

“I was in awe with Iza then and I am looking forward to working with her again this time,” said the actor who won the Gawad Urian best supporting award for “Noy.”

“I am still on cloud nine. Parang hindi pa rin ako makapaniwala,” said Joem who attended the awards night not expecting anything.

Asked how he felt winning the FAMAS Best Supporting Actor Award, he said, “Winning an award is a validation of your good work and I am very happy that I was recognized. It’s hard to explain the feeling but it feels good inside. I always give my best in every role that I do and to be recognized for it is a pat on the back. It’s exciting and fulfilling.”

Producer Shandii Bacolod, who is handling the filming of “Culion”  and is a dear friend to Joem, is hoping for a Best Actor win for Joem in the Metro Manila Film Festival 2019 come December.
