MCCI aims to strengthen ties with Mandaue LGU

Ehda M. Dagooc - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) aims to intensify its alliance with the Mandaue City government this year.

The chamber's new president Stanley Go said the business will not just ask for the government's support for business-friendly policies and fixing traffic and infrastructure, but it is also opening its doors to be part of the city's core of consultants, as well as promotion ambassadors.

In an interview with Go, he said that although MCCI has been partnering with the City for a long time now and even have a government and private sector relationship, it is imperative that it will tighten their connection as any government move, no matter how trivial or important, has great effect to business.

This time, he said the government and private sectors should become strong allies to compete with the world. The borderless economy, if not take into serious consideration could eat local SMEs "alive".

Go, on the other hand stopped short of enumerating specific joint programs to be undertaken by MCCI and Mandaue City government, saying all are still in the drawing board.

What is certain, he said is the business sector will open its arms some more to assist its host local government unit, so it could achieve stellar economic growth being a preferred industrial and commercial city in the province. (FREEMAN)
