ProGED holds training for trade and tech staff

CEBU, Philippines - The Promotion of Green Economic Development  held another round of training for trade and technical personnel to further promote green economy in the Philippines.

The German-funded ProGED program is holding a GED training after piloting it in June this year.

The four day training, which started yesterday at the Radisson Blu Hotel Cebu and will run until November 21, aims to enable DTI officials and technical personnel of its additional seven replication areas namely, Cavite, Tarlac, Occidental Mindoro, Camarines Sur, Capiz,  Siquijor and Surigao del Norte to effectively implement the ProGED approach in their respective locations.

The training will include theoretical inputs on GED, practical examples of greening practices that MSMEs can adopt, computation on savings due to greening and learning visits to enterprises adopting green practices.

Topics covered by the training range from greening value chains, shift to LED lighting, available green financing schemes, storage of solar energy and quantifying benefits of going green.

Participants will be introduced to innovative and creative training techniques, a signature of the GED training of ProGED.

The event will also showcase an exhibit on solar panels, solar lanterns and solar morphing lights, inspiring up-cycled items from a renowned Cebuano exporter and various products made out of waste products of the Cebu dried mango industry.

An info booth on GED will also display knowledge products relevant to climate change and private sector development.

ProGED is a development cooperation project jointly implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and Department of Trade and Industry and funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development BMZ with the aim of increasing the competitiveness of MSMEs by adopting environment friendly and climate smart strategies.

ProGED is now implemented in 14 new provinces all throughout the Philippines, starting from its pilot areas Bohol and Cebu.  (FREEMAN)
