Phoenix fires coach Wilson, team consultant Jarin

MANILA, Philippines — The Phoenix Fuel Masters have parted ways with head coach Willy Wilson and team consultant Jamike Jarin, the team announced Wednesday.
The coaching change came after a disappointing PBA Season 50 Philippine Cup for Phoenix, wherein they finished with a 3-8 win-loss record.
It was the first conference for both Wilson as head coach and for Jarin as team consultant. Jarin earlier served as the team’s head tactician in the previous season.
“After much evaluation, the Phoenix Fuelmasters have amicably parted ways with head coach Willy Wilson and team consultant Jamike Jarin effective immediately,” the post read.
“We thank Coach Willy and Jamike for their hard work, commitment and professionalism through the years and wish them the very best in their future endeavors,” it added.
For now, a new coach is yet to be named.
Despite having one of the most promising cores in the league, the Fuel Masters won just one of their first six games of the All-Filipino conference, but it came against the San Miguel Beermen.
They then won just two of their last five games. The victories came over Terrafirma and Blackwater — the only teams that are below them in the standings.
The squad will continue to be led by Jason Perkins, Kai Ballungay, Ken Tuffin and Tyler Tio.
