Moymoy Palaboy's Rodfil to provide Tagalog voice for PUBG Mobile
"I am happy to be the very first Tagalog voice for PUBG Mobile. It is an unforgettable experience, as a gamer, to hear your own voice and imagine thousands of Filipinos listening to it. This is a win for Filipino representation in mobile games.”

MANILA, Philippines — As Tencent's PUBG Mobile game continues to grow in popularity in the Philippines, it was only a matter of time before the game released a Tagalog-voice pack. Now, the idea has become a reality.

With the game's recent 1.9 update, a Tagalog voice pack is now available for Filipino gamers to enjoy. It features the voice of comedian, actor and fellow gamer Rodfil Macasero, popularly known as one-half of the Moymoy Palaboy tandem.

"I am happy to be the very first Tagalog voice for PUBG Mobile. It is an unforgettable experience, as a gamer, to hear your own voice and imagine thousands of Filipinos listening to it. This is a win for Filipino representation in mobile games,” said Rodfil in a statement.

Speaking to Philstar.com, Macasero shared that being the Tagalog voice of the game had been a dream come true.

Macasero previously worked as a dubber with GMA. His dubbing credits include the Tagalog version of the movie Hangover and the Japanese-Filipino anime series Barangay 143. He currently presents the show iBilib with Chris Tiu every Sunday on GMA.

"Nagdub ako before sa Barangay 143." recalled Macasero. So pinatry ako and ang hirap pala talaga kasi papanoorin mo yung salita tapos kailangan sabay sa syllables mo pati yung emosyon."

He shared that his past experience with dubbing helped him with the recording of his lines for PUBG Mobile, and that he only encountered one hardship: deciding on the emotions for each line.

"Nahirapan lang ako dun sa di ko alam kung gagawin ko ba itong serious or gagawin ko ba itong lively or comedic so ginawa ko na lang lahat tapos sila na lang mamili." narrated Macasero.

He recalled that after receiving the lines he had to say, he wasn't sure what emotion he wanted to portray and ended up giving each line three different versions: one serious, one intense and finally, true to his comedic nature, a lively and funny version. He then left it for PUBG Mobile to decide what to put in the game with most lines being included were the latter two rather than the serious versions.

As someone who waited for his chance at becoming a dubber, Macasero encourages other Filipinos who dream of becoming dubbers to keep at it.

"Pag gusto mo talaga — totoo naman yung claim it — yung law of attraction.

On the Philippine esports scene

As a casual gamer, Macasero enjoys a number of games but favors first-person shooting games, which was what drew him to play PUBG Mobile in the first place. He recalled that it was one of the first games he had streamed on his gamer channel. Though he himself doesn't participate in any competitions, he believes that the country's gaming industry has certainly leveled-up, especially with how easily accessible mobile games are.

He adds, "Dito sa Pilipinas, mobile talaga ang malakas at pinakamabenta in terms of gaming. Parang basketball team na siya na mayroon nag-aanalyze, may meeting sila before and after the maglaro. Sinusupport nila yung pagaaral mo. Nakakatuwa kasi lumalawak ang esports ngayon."

Esports has certainly taken the spotlight over the years, with many Filipino teams showcasing their talents and taking home different titles and trophies in esport titles like Dota2, Mobile Legends, Valorant and League of Legends. A chance to add on to the country's winning performance in esports is the upcoming 31st Southeast Asian Games in Hanoi this May wherein the country's national esports team Sibol, composed of 55 esport athletes, is will compete in 10 different events.

With PUBG Mobile having two events in the upcoming biennial games, Macasero believes the Filipino team is a force to be reckoned with.

"Marami kasing malalakas ngayon sa Philippine team, I think may laban tayo. Siguro makak-first or second," predicted Macasero.

PUBG Mobile’s Tagalog Voice Pack is now available with the game's latest update. Your country/region must be set to the Philippines then head to your Inventory and select the Filipino voice.
