UAAP stats chief: Rest boosted Adamson guard Ahanmisi's Mythical 5 bid

MANILA, Philippines – Adamson coach Franz Pumaren’s decision not to use Jerrick Ahanmisi in their final game against FEU last Sunday turned out to be a wise move for their Fil-Am shooting guard.

With Ahanmisi and Sean Manganti resting, the Soaring Falcons absorbed a 56-82 beating to the Tamaraws, who forced a playoff game against La Salle for the last Final Four slot.
Adamson had nothing to gain in that contest as it is already assured of the No. 2 spot and the twice-to-beat advantage against UP but it did a big favor on Ahanmisi as far its Mythical Five inclusion is concerned.

According to the league’s stats guru Pong Ducanes, if Ahanmisi had played just one minute and did not score, he’ll lose his spot to UST rookie CJ Cansino.

UP’s Bright Akhuetie, who will be named the season MVP, and Juan Gomez de Liano,  Alvin Pasaol of UE, La Salle’s Justine Baltazar and Ahanmisi will make up the Mythical Five of Season 81.

Ateneo’s Angelo Kouame could have been part of the group as he finished second to Akhuetie in stats but a league rule on one student foreign athlete only in the Mythical Five barred him in joining the elite team.

Ahanmisi was No. 6 in stats with 58.38 while Cansino was No. 7 with 57.30.

According to Ducanes, if Ahanmisi played against FEU and did not produce any stat (points, rebounds, assists), he’ll bomb out of the Mythical Team as his stats could go down to 54.21, good for No. 13 overall.

“What more kung may error, magka-technical foul or unsportsmanlike foul, lalo siyang babagsak,” said the amiable Ducanes.

Well, good thing Pumaren decided to rest Ahanmisi as he’s the first Falcon to join Mythical Five since Alex Nuyles in 2011.
